“This Sissy refuses to hide”
is a reiteration of the “Sissy” collection made in 2020, which initially presented a collection of queer stories through a clothing line. These stories were stories of defiance against the norm, but a defiance that needed to be done in secret. Through symbols and signals, the queer community developed a secret language to communicate.
The new work ‘This sissy refuses to hide’ serves as a commentary on the ongoing mistreatment of queer individuals globally. Juxtaposing the historical secret messages, with a bold graphic statement, inspired by protest signs of the 80’s, it is shown that queer deserve to wear our stories with pride.
