'The Three Saints of Pride' is a textile artwork created for Pride Month Tilburg. Inspired by the Christian iconography and stained-glass windows encountered during a journey through Seville, the work explores who is allowed to be considered a saint, and who those saints are meant to protect.
The artwork introduces three new patron saints: Out, Loud, and Proud. Together, they embody self-acceptance, visibility, protest, and pride within the queer community. By presenting these abstract figures as saints, the work suggests that anyone who dares to be out, loud, and/or proud can become a protector and role model for others.
Drawing on the visual language of stained glass, the work translates this traditionally religious imagery into layers of transparent organza, embellished with gold thread and lurex. The result is a contemporary textile interpretation of sainthood that celebrates the courage, resilience, and visibility of queer lives.
